Land preparation & soil tillage

Before a single mahangu seed goes into the ground, the land must be made ready. In this lesson we learn what land preparation and tillage are and why we do them, then meet the methods one at a time — ploughing by hand hoe, by animal and by tractor, then harrowing and ridging, and finally conservation or minimum tillage. For each we weigh the good and bad points, and learn how a Namibian farmer chooses the right method for the soil, the money and the rain.
