We'll study how he ruled through terror — the Purges — and through propaganda and a towering cult of personality; and his two great economic revolutions: the Five-Year Plans that transformed Soviet industry, and the collectivisation of farming that brought famine and death. Then we'll weigh how successful his changes were, and how they affected the Soviet people.
