- Learners should be able to give a clear opinion using signpost phrases and develop it with a reason and an example.
- Learners should be able to agree and disagree politely, using assertive rather than aggressive language.
- Learners should be able to use discourse markers to add, contrast, show cause, sequence ideas and buy thinking time.
- Learners should be able to use tentative and modal language to express uncertainty politely.
- Learners should be able to persuade a partner by giving reasons, focusing on the listener and complimenting their point.
- Learners should be able to negotiate by restating a partner's view, suggesting alternatives and finding common ground.
- Learners should be able to ask clarifying questions and keep a conversation going by responding and handing a question back.
