Order is a choice, not an accident. Learn to withhold key information for suspense, juxtapose counterarguments for contrast, build to a climax, save your strongest point for last, and open and close for maximum effect.

- Learners should be able to explain the principle that structure serves purpose, and that the order of ideas is a deliberate choice.
- Learners should be able to define withholding key information and use it to build suspense in imaginative writing.
- Learners should be able to juxtapose a point and its counterargument so that the contrast itself persuades the reader.
- Learners should be able to order material to build to a climax and to place the strongest argument last.
- Learners should be able to use a very short paragraph for emphasis, and explain the effect it creates.
- Learners should be able to select an opening and an ending technique — circular ending, cliff-hanger, or ending on a question — to suit purpose and audience.
- Learners should be able to reorder a set of given points and analyse the different effect each order creates.
- Learners should be able to plan a 220–260 word essay by listing points and renumbering them before writing.
