Why can a small country like Namibia produce far more than it seems it should? The secret is two connected ideas: specialisation — concentrating on what you do best — and the division of labour — splitting a job into separate tasks. In this lesson we build a bread-factory production line to see the division of labour in action, then weigh up its advantages and disadvantages like proper economists. Finally we climb the levels of specialisation, from a single worker to a whole nation, and see how specialisation must always be joined by exchange and money.
