What you'll learn in this lesson

By the end you should be able to (NSSCO Chemistry 1.3):

  • Explain and use the relationships between length, surface area and volume and their units on metric scales
  • Identify the correct SI unit and derived units, and use the metric prefixes (tera, giga, mega, kilo, deci, centi, milli, micro, nano, pico) to convert between quantities
  • Use standard (scientific) notation
  • Use acceptable methods of stating units (e.g. m/s or m s⁻¹; the solidus for a quotient and for table/graph labels)
  • Use the appropriate number of significant figures
  • State the concept of absolute zero and the Kelvin scale, and convert using T/°C + 273.15 = T/K
