- Describe the structure of an atom: a nucleus of protons and neutrons surrounded by electrons in shells
- State the relative charges and relative masses of protons, neutrons and electrons
- Define atomic (proton) number and mass (nucleon) number
- Work out the numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons from the atomic and mass numbers
- Arrange electrons in shells (2, 8, 8) and link the arrangement to group and period
- Outline how the model of the atom developed (Dalton, Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr)
