- Define acids and bases in terms of proton transfer (aqueous solutions)
- Explain the difference between alkalis and bases
- Compare the properties of acids and bases using indicators (litmus, Universal Indicator)
- Describe neutrality and relative acidity/alkalinity in terms of pH (whole numbers)
- Distinguish weak from strong acids and alkalis using Universal Indicator and the pH scale
- Describe the characteristic reactions of acids with metals, bases and carbonates
- Explain strong/weak in terms of dissociation into ions
- Explain concentrated/dilute in terms of the number of H⁺ or OH⁻ ions in 1 dm³
- Explain that pH depends on both the strength and the concentration
