How soil forms & the soil profile

Every handful of soil on a Namibian farm began as solid rock. In this lesson we follow that long, patient story — how weathering and the decay of dead matter turn bare rock into living soil — and then we dig straight down through a soil pit to meet each layer, or horizon, from the dark topsoil to the hard parent rock below.
